Fed: Bushfires inquiry moves to Tasmania

A federal inquiry into last summer's bushfires will begin hearing evidence today in Tasmania.

The move to the island state comes as the chief of the House of Representatives committeesays disturbing trends are emerging in the information it has collected so far.

Chairman GARY NAIRN says hearings so far in New South Wales and Victoria have uncoveredwidespread criticism of forest management methods by state government bodies.

The one-day hearing at state parliament will be followed by sessions in Western Australianext week.

A final report from the inquiry is due to be tabled on November 6.
